how do you remove filter from hotpioint wt940 washing machine?

I've got the front panel off and have tried unscrewing the filter but it wont come away, it only turnes 90degrees one way and back again... water comes out but just cant pull the filter out..

it is suppose to screw off the whole way try moving back and fro couple off times to see if it will come loose,maybe something holding it inside
