How do i stop my brake lights from being constant?

My brake lights are constantly on even when im not braking. I dont want to take it to a garage coz i dont trust them here. can anyone tell me what i could do to fix it?

it is most likely to be your brake light switch at fault. we need to know the car to find where it is. but try behind the footbrake ,
