This alarm will not come out of the walk test programme,

These are the things I have tried so far,

Battery replaced (like for like)

All default codes

Powered the system down (mains battery), and it still powers back up in the walk test programme.The keypad keys are lit up and appear to be working, but still cannot exit engineering mode.

Can anybody suggest anything?, something I have not tried yet,or ideas please

They are old but stable.
Either get someone in or do as above after a google.
But the NVM does sound like it has been spiked and is a bin time.
About £30 online will get you the equivalent.

Refresh the nvm,

This involves working on the panel whilst live!!,

Do you need instructing on this procedure ?,

I for one ,suggest you call someone in if you are unsure about electrics and the high voltages within the control panel.There's no guarantees this will fix though as the nvm may have had it.
