My Gilera Cougar dies after driving it for a short time?

Hi! I have a Gilera Cougar 125cc (2000) with 11.000 miles on the clock. It stars fine without the choke. It rides fine until Im switching it off. But once I switching it back on it dies after a short time. It feels like running out of petrol and of course the engine its warm. Sometimes I had explosions comming out of the exhaust. I have been "playing" with the screews in the carb trying to adjust the revs. Any help will be really appreciate it. Many thanks

I have a cougar that had the same problem, I found it was the cdi unit, it has dry solder connections. either get a new cdi unit or (if machanicley minded) carefully cut through the 2mm rubber and expose the contacts opposite the plug itself, carefully touch as many of the connections as you can with a soldering iron, then seal back up with silicone this sorted mine out and runs fine now. hope this helps. :)

well i have the same bike with less miles on the clock and i have had the same prob for a long time,in my case it is the fuel tank sucking air in and making a vaccum, which stops fuel getting into it when it dies open the tank and lisen to the air come in i jst run it will a full tank then it never cuts out hope it helps

i would suggest the fuel either had water in it or the main jet or needle jet in the carb is blocked.does it idle ok with the choke off or die like that too?

ok you need to put the screws back to standerd and then first check the choke mechanism make sure the choke is switching of.as you say it starts without choke this could be the problem. also check air cleaner element make sure its clean.failing that strip clean and check carb ,hope this helps
