Hotpoint Aquarius WF 320 Noisy Drum?

Could anyone tell me what the problem is likely to be, as it is making an almighty racket during spin cycle and what sounds like a grating sound during wash ? I am no engineer so what is the likely cost of repair ( as can not afford to replace at present nor get ripped off) All other functions appear ok but last couple of uses it has tripped the fusebox ? Help !!!

Thanks Phil your answer was absolutely spot on . Have since taken the machine to local repairer where we live in S Ireland and thats exactly what they said and cost of repair was equivilent having converted to Euro.
Thanks again
