clutch not engaging=free flowing pedal?

ca'nt engage gears on my renault laguna,the clutch pedal is free flowing. Is it just that thre cable is broken.How can I check this to be sure?

have a look at g/box end at the release lever,if your pedal is going to the floor and no movement at g/box end then it is likely the cable is broken
