Replaced head gasket on 57 plate ford focus didn't use gasket sealant is that why its still leaking coolant from the left hand side of the engine gently.

Just to make anyone else aware who may have or get a similar problem. We were supplied the wrong gasket. It didn't cover the area and left a mm gap for coolant to get through

CDC,

Could it be the engine block is also warped?

New head bolts were used and cylinder head was skimmed slightly.

Just unsure of how to progress now

Brian, July 2012
Head was skimmed also used new head bolts

you shouldn`t need gasket sealant on a head gasket, did you check for warped head, were the head bolt threads clear of dirt/oil/debris,did you renew the head bolts, they may be stretch bolts on these
