i have a 2002 zx6oor ninja j2 , i can put it in to first then have problems selecting the rest of the gears ,once i do get it into 2 it goes through the rest of the box with no problems and will ride fine all day,until the next time i use it then it starts all over again, when trying to select 2 it feels solid until i go back into 1st then neutral a couple of times then it goes fine

Hard to say Lee but I did come across a similar problem with a Honda I had. It turned out to a worn gear selector shaft which was easily replaced by removing the right engine casing & sliding it out. The reason it's hard to select gear when you first start the bike is because the engine is cold. When everything warms up, it's fine. I don't think it's the gearbox problem as you're getting the drive from the engine.
