Got a new one eventually, after escalation to Germany and two attempts at fixing it. All in all without a hob for 2 months!

The answer to this one is that you call the engineer who comes out and replaces nearly every part but still doesn't have the correct one so goes away and will return in another 8 days leaving you without a hob still.
