A common fault is for the condenser to fail. This unit is fixed onto the motor and is responsible for kick starting the motor clock or anti-clockwise. When it fails most people think the motor is burnt out when it is not.
Replacement capacitors can be obtained easily. Go to www.espares .co uk or just Google 'capacitor for Hotpoint v3dOO. The part should cost no more than £15 and they're easy to replace.
