Scantronic 9751 - faulty?

Some 5 months after installation the alarm rang 3 times overnight and the security code would not stop it. The engineer replaced the keypad. About 5 months later the same thing happened again and then about 8 months later it happened for the 3rd time. The security company now say the unit is out of warranty and that is necessary to pay for a new unit and its installation. Information from anybody who has experienced intermittant problems on the 9751 or a similar unit would be welcome.

I have fitted scanny for 15 years. They will always exchange faulty equipment beven when out of warranty. Your installer is ripping you off.

nah u got it wrong alarm guy, with them, its 30 k,first, then change bits till you get it working,:-)

You have hit the nail on the head gts,i agree with you totally, you have picked up on my point here " installers not engineers".

Our senior engineers are old skool and if they say the panels faulty it is, the young uns ring us oldies asking advice, that's ok it all comes down to experience.

e manno, August 2012
but am like you,old school,we check for cause of faults, not just change bits, sadly the young guys these days go for quick fix, change this change that, you know what am talking about,i would hesitate to call them engineers,if you think am wrong, tell me

yup alarm guy,i agree

Any engineer worth his salt would have checked from induced AC.

Alarm, August 2012
and to let you guys know how good scantronic are, if we fit one of their units and its faulty, they replace it,and give us a free panel to cover our costs,no other manufacturer do this .so,that is why we stick with them,we have fitted over a thousand of the 9800,and a like number of 9751,and a lot of the 9448 units,we will stick with scanny.

gts, August 2012
we fit them as standard e manno, its just sence to do it

Maybe these panels are not faulty ?,

Intermittent faults like the one's described ,can be linked to induced ~AC~.Even if these systems were installed professionally, spikes can cause issues.

How many systems do you guys recall working on that haven't had a suppressor fitted, either as standard or a pre fix ?,

Us electricians know how to test for induced ~ , and we also know that most meters won't register a reading, gts got me thinking here when he suggested this engineer was a component changer.

Wonder if these panels had these four quid filters fitted?

"Installed a 9751 but 9 weeks later it would not disarm. Operator error I thought. 5 months later same problem so replaced touch pad. Nearly a year later same problem. Replaced 9751 without charge and received a refund from Scantronic supplier. Problem solved. Your installer probably received a refund as well as charging you. Had similar problem with a 9651 unit."

DIY or Pro fitting?

sale of goods act 1976 states the goods must be fit for purpose,if they have been out to see the panel and you are still getting the same prob, its called an on going fault,it does not matter if the guarantee is out, they failed to fix the fault, its their prob, not yours,if you dont beleive me,either print it out,or,get them back to fleece you again,

gts, August 2012
Nope, they have not fixed the fault.
There is something the so called engineer is missing. Ask for their senior engineer or a manufacturers rep to be present next time.

Also check the EU rules on warranties for electrical goods.

Alarm, August 2012
i suggest you print it out and stick it in their face ,if you have what is know as an ongoing fault,i e ,they cant fix it,then its their prob,do not buy new unit,if the engineer could not find the fault, tough,he sounds like a cmponet changer to me,not an engineer stick to your guns, reprt them to trading standards

See if the log can help,

Pop your code in and press 5, what is displayed?,

See if the log has recorded these false alarms, and see if it points to a particular zone.

e manno, August 2012
sorry acorn, how could i be sooo stupid,

gts, August 2012
Now, come on, don't ask complicated questions :-))

acorn, August 2012
when this happend ,what did the key pad say

gts, August 2012
your alarm installer is wrong,if you have an ongoing fault, its their prob, check out the sale of goods act
