How can I replace the waterpump on my Kangoo D65?

Hello,I have a 1.9 kangoo D65 diesel van whose waterpump has given up. As the pump is in a very inaccessible place, I was wondering if, to replace it, I might have to pull the engine out which to me is a bit radical just to replace a pump!! My other option is to cut through the inner wall of the wheel compartment to get to it, and then reweld the cutout afterwards. Both radical!

cdc, thanks, I'll do just that! it's not my first belt, but it is my first kangoo! fortunately, the camshaft and fuel pump are gear and chain driven so I do not have to sweat over allignments, my problem is getting to the water pump, I can just see it when i take the front right wheel off, and can can only reach four of the eight holding bolts!

It is driven off the timing belt and would advise to renew that also, check all idlers etc and if in doubt replace the lot which could save you in the long run,you will need the timing pin for the crankshaft and I think for the pump and cam timing is two 8mm bolts,I don`t think you have to cut holes in bodies etc for access,if you haven`t done a belt before then I strongly advise to buy a manual for settings etc,1 tooth out and you are in trouble.
