Faulty interior sounder scantronic 9200?

Hi all, hope you can help, my alarm is making te weirdest noises. The speaker/sounder is giving out a crackling static sort of noise. It's an ancient scantronic 9200 but I can't afford to replace it.

Yep.. Don't know why this guy posted, meaning he answered his own question from the very start +[battery]- ,

Maybe he just needed a nudge in the right direction, it would be nice to know the out come though :)

............ and how?

I wonder if this was ever sorted?

Clean the two battery wiring connectors up, fit new battery, smear a little vasaline on the battery terminals, write the date on the new battery so you know how old it is for future reference.

Shop around for a new battery, you can purchase same for around eight quid.Let us all know how you get on, I suggest you check the battery fuse on the pcb, chances are it's blown due to the faulty battery.

Battery

That just tells us it's a Yuasa Y range battery, is there a stacker , label that starts with a letter followed by a number ?, eg F0.........?, dates the battery to June 2000,

Don't matter because the battery should be replaced after 5 years anyway,

Two choices here:

1 replace the battery and a possible nvm refresh,

2 upgrade if the panel is faulty,

Your choice.

The battery has Y2.1 - 12. 12v 2.1Ah C20.

Written on it. The negative connector looked a bit crusty
I'll have a go at the fuses too.

Viewed it, let's not be to hasty here in writing the old girl off yet, can you give us the battery details, i'am only interested in the first two digits that point towards it's age.

These old panels do behave oddly when the battery is knackered. Now the system is power free ( no mains or battery), test the fuses, use a meter a visual inspection won't suffice.

Let's check these first before we assume the worst.

Here's a link to my screwy alarm

The only way I could get it to stop was to disconnect the alarm from the mains.

Do you think I should still bother with finding a battery or should I go straight for a replacement.

That sounds like mine manno. I haven't got a battery yet but I'm not too confident it'll fix it now. Soon after removing the battery the console went crazy and started flashing and making a noise like a techno rave. I took a small video of it and will try to upload to YouTube.

Blimey that's an oldie, nice to see a scanny of this age still in use today, that's the model with the hinged cover if my memory serves me correctly.

Hope the new battery cures the problem, if it doesn't then upgrade to the 9448,their cheap enough now and you won't be disappointed with the ease of programming and it's reliability.

I hope this is a genuine question as we are having probs on here with trolls, i saw your post before you added but I was dubious to answer.

If you are indeed genuine then I wish you all the best :)

you will be without an alarm system then, till you replace the battery

Okay it seems the battery is at fault. I opened the box up and took the battery out and the speaker stoped crackling(the alarm had previous gone off and the tamper light had come on) now the question is, is it safe to leave without a battery for a day or two?
