Have just purchased a old flymo jlo l97 which does not run when the snorkel is inserted. Runs OK without the snorkel but when I inset it, the engine dies.
The governor is working OK, and mows ok without snorkel, but then I have no air filter. What problem is this indicative of ? I am using 25:1 fuel mix.

The obvious answer is that the air filter in the snorkel is blocked?

Not relevant to your problem, but with today's synthetic 2-stroke oils, 50:1 is a better mix. I use Stihl oil at 50:1 in everything - no smoke and no problems - including an old Flymo with a Tecumseh engine that recommends 16:1 !
