Hoover tumble drier - strange noise?

My Hoover (SV23) Reverse Action tumble drier, when plugged in & switched on at socket - but not in operation, went bang!
When investigating the bang in the utility room, the tumble drier could be heard 'arcing' - that crackling noise associated with a faulty electrical connection. When the power was switched off at the socket - it stops (And re-starts when power is applied).

I have had the same problem and found that the Suppressor has blown. i have purchesed a new one for £9.99 thats less then the cost of the petrol needed to take it to the dump.

Hmm. Not an incredibly useful post but....
Without knowing exactly what is arcing then it's difficult to know what to suggest. Tumble driers are very simple to fix provided you can find the parts as they are usually Motor, Heater, Control circuit . However i would counsel not to switch on again unless you really know what you are up to. A bang in stationary mode suggests maybe capacitor failure. In which case, get in your car, take it to the dump and buy a new one.
