car alarm won't disarm after new battery?

Hi my previous battery went flat so i bought a new one after unsuccesfully jumpstarting my car with another. Now as soon as i plug both ends of the new battery the alarm goes off and doesn't stop. I've tried locking and unlocking the driver's door with the keys but to no avail .Any ideas??. help
