I have a mk2 fiat punto 3door 8valve 1.2, the problem that has arisen is the passenger door latch when opened from outside sticks up and open, what could be causing this and how can it be fixed

This is very common on the Punto. Lift the handle and spray some 'white grease' aerosol lubricant onto all the pivot points and hinges that you can see from below, making sure some gets onto the mechanism where it psaases through to the inside of the door. Operated the handle repeatedly until it returns under pressure from the internal spring. Job done!
