how can i get my cat eye pocket bike to spark?

I bought a cateye pocket bike at a ward sale for 50$ it has no wiring, no cdi , no eletrics. I can't get a spark when I pullstart it. But when I wire a battery to the electric start it sparks? Can I ride with it connected?
