How do I get the old stains out of my bathtub?

We moved into an older home..it has an older 53" tub with shower and it is badly stained... I believe it is acrylic..I know it is not porcelin..I have even soaked it in CLR and other cleaners and it won't budge..what can I do? Is there a paint that I could use? HELP... We just don't have the money to have a new one installed and it would have to be special ordered.

I have had luck using bicarbonate of soda and vinegar or lemon juice on a white steel bath

Acrylic is difficutl to clear of stains what you could do is approach a caravan manufacturer most are now made in similar way fibreglas/acrylic. Baths are not made of porcelane they were first wood then cast iron now steel or acrylic. Robin hoods time they jumped in a river instead depending what was floating in it.
