how can i fix my peugeot 206, dm 2001 model?

i was driving when the engine suddenly went off, and engine check light appeared. i waited for few minutes and the car was able to start again. since then it has been PERSISTENT on and off, after I start it for few seconds. please i need your advice. thank you.
