hoover hdv6 tumble drier will not stay switched on?

when i push the button to turn my drier on, it works as long as i keep my finger pressed, as soon as i let go of the button, the drier shoul remain on, but it doesn't. any clues as to the problem would be extremely helpful

Thanks guys, i had exact same problem with our HDV6.
got the part from Mark L's cheaper link for about £14
Fitted it (removing front of machine was tricky bit) and now
we have a workin dryer again. Thanks
I have digital photos of various stages of repair job(could help someone) Is it possible to put them on this site ??
Any way here is a quick check list of job
1)unplug from mains
2)remove 3 screws at top, rear of machine that keep back guard of lid in place
3)remove back guard rail for lid
4)slide plywood lid back off machine
5)probably best to remove the two side rails for the lid aswell
they just pull back n lift off(they r not screwed down)
6)remove the screws at the front of the top of dryer(2 or 4 cant remember
7)tilt dryer on side n remove screws at the front of the underside (4 in total)
8)the rest is probably easier if u return the dryer to upright position & place it on a support to keep the front clear of the ground eg, a couple of 2by4's
9)open the dryer door & remove the 11 screws holding the front in place(do not remove the 4 hinge screws, there r 2 beside each hinge) &(do not remove the screw by the door latch)
10)the front can now be removed, but remember, there r wires
going from the dryer components still attached so take care not to put stress on any or on any components
11)i found it easiest to tilt the front up like a hatch back rear door, so that one side is resting on top of dryer & the other side rests on a support eg kitchen table or counter top. This avoids having to remove any leads.
12)remove the 2 screws holding the replacement board in place
13)as i removed one connection from the old board i replaced it onto the new board, this meant that i didnt put connections on in wrong places. there r 4 connections to remove & replace
14)reattach the new board with the 2 screws
15)replace front of machine carefull not to trap any wires etc & replace 11 screws taking care to line up properly with the appropriate holes
16)turn on side & replace 4 bottom screws
17)return upright onto floor & replace top screws
18)reattach side guards for top of dryer & slide chipboard top into place
19)reattach rear guard firmly into place & replace the 3 screws
20)hey presto dryer fixed

I hope this helps someone out there
& I hope i haven't left anything out or made any mistarks, LOL

Thanks very much for sharing that Peter, I had the same fault on my tumble dryer and found your answer after a brief search on the net.
you can buy the part cheaper here: http://www.espares.co.uk/part/tumble-dryers/hoover/hdv6uk/p/1088/107/0/677491/209751/relay%2fpcb.html?k=relay
Fitted mine last night (bit fiddly getting the front off like you said), but now working again & cheaper than buying new!
Thanks again.

Thanks for the answer above, I have exactly the same problem on my HDV6

You need to buy and fit a new relay PCB. You can buy this item from here: http://www.4barmey.co.uk/cgi-bin/product.pl?PID=723532

This is difficult to fit as you will need to remove the top and front of the machine to access the relay PCB fixing screws. Still cheaper than a new tumble drier. I know this is what you need because I have had the same fault on my HDV6 machine. Does the machine 'buzz' behind the controls when you push the button in? If so, this is the relay rapidly switching on and off. Good luck with the repair. Hope this is helpfull to you
