my simpson esprite650 model 22S650 washing machine won't agitate?

hi, my washing machine won't agitate. the motor start wire (brown) has 240v on it. it then goes to a scnchronous motor with gear box attached into a plug which becomes a blue wire then out as a blue wire (internal contact) inside gear box. the small mechanical wire that is attached to the spring loaded mechanism keeps this contact open. would anyone know if this is correct or does the motor have to be energised to wind in the mechanical wire to close the circuit. i tested it by applying 240v to the motor. it wound in the wire and closed the switch. don't know if i'm on the right track .any help very much appreciated

The small cable attached to the spring loaded brake arm is there to pull the brake arm away and release the gearbox for the spin, it does not energize & close the internal contact during the agitate mode. Try the machine on final spin and see if motor runs when the brake cable pulls in. If it does then the motor & wiring are ok. If it doesn't and you say there is 230V to motor then check the neutral wire going back up it may have a break. If spin is ok then I would look at the forward/reverse module inside the panel next to the timer. They sometimes fail.
