Engine fault warning?

Hi,
Ford Fiesta 1.2 Zetec Diesel 57 plate
Can someone help me please? My car is showing a warning light and stating that there is an engine fault. What do I do??? Should I take it to a garage and is it safe to do so? Or get them to tow it away. I am on a tight budget so any help would be appreciated.
I did notice the last few days that the car was stalling, seconds after I set off but I put it down to the freezing conditions.

As said needs a diagnostic test doing.should be safe to drive to a local garage although if you have recovery why not use them in the 1st instance

It needs to be looked at. They will put it on a dinostics (spelling) tester and that will show up the fault. It normally costs £30.00 to find out what is wrong and if it's not much they will do it into that £30.00. Ask a few friends the best place to go. I go to a place in Loughborough and they are very fair but I have no idea where you live. Good Luck.
