hotpoint ultima wmd947.digital display fault?

when i switch it on at the mains it makes a beeping sound and the display screen is blank with just the background lighting up,each button i press also makes a beeping noise but nothing happens,does anyone know if i can fix this problem myself or will i need to phone a hotpoint repair?

on the menu select pump out then start cycle, works for me sometimes >goodluck

Just spent 30 mins working this out on mine and it was simply the child lock being on. Try holding the child lock buitton down for a few seconds. It then allowed me to switch the machine on as normal.
