how to fix a damaged oil sump?

I have a 03 plate nissan micra with an oil leak due to damage to the bottom flange on the engine block. It looks as though someone tried to remove the pan with a hammer and knocked off a piece of the casting, then reattached it with a bitumen type sealant. Any ideas on how to do a better job of it?

Could it be welded from underneath/inside the engine?

Thanx for reading people.

i'm sure someone could weld it the grind it flat for a better fit but comes down to how much you are willing to spend fixing it

without seeing it,it would be difficult to determine what would be your best option,I think I would remove the sump and clean up the damaged block and broken part, there are some good metal repair kits out there and also if you could maybe get the motor to an engineers to have a look at to see if it is possible to weld and repair it properly and refit the sump with good quality sealant
