I have a problem with my Potterton Promax Combi HE Plus boiler?

I have a 6 year old Potterton Promax Combi HE Plus boiler, which stops working and gives the E160 error message sometimes when I run the hot water, especially if the water has only been running slowly. My gas fitter checked the wiring which seemed ok at the time, so says it is probably the fan, but as this only happens occasionally, I cannot afford to replace the fan if it turns out to be an intermittent wiring fault. Has anyone heard of this problem please?

Thank you for taking the time to give me some advice.
My gas fitter is really nice and helpful, but he said himself, as the fault is intermittent, he could not be sure it was the fan playing up but as the wiring seemed OK when he checked it, the error code given meant it was probably the fan. I will mention the pressure switch to him. It seems strange that it works fine just for the central heating, but the problem just seems to happen when running the hot water.

i would be cautious as these boilers have a common air pressure switch fault there around £30 and take 5 mins to fit. i fixed alot of these and i would look at replacing this little item before looking at the fan or pcb. a fan can be tested easily and normally when they go its quiet obvious

sounds like you dont have faith in your gas engineer
you might be better off going with a one fixed fee repair with the boiler manufacturer
if they cant fix the boiler then no one can
