2001 mondeo 2.0 auto, possible gear box fault?

I have a mondeo 2001 2.0 auto. over the last day or so as i'm driving along there has been what feels like a kick or jerk movement from the gear box, also It smells like something is burning at the same time. What is this likely to be?

When did you last renew the automatic transmission fluid? When did you last check the level? Has it ever been checked in the last 12 years?

If not get an auto transmission specialist to check it and service it for you now. You might be lucky...
