Murray rider will crank but wont start?

My rider sat for a season,I put new gas in,new battery, new oil,new filter, new spark plug,,will turn over but will not start,,now hearing a popping sound while turning over,,what can I do to start it? We already put gas directly into carb didn't work,

I would think the popping sound might be a valve stuck open.

Remove the spark plug, heat it witha blow lamp until its stopped smoking and is very hot (Not melting red hot !) then quickly screw it back in and crank the engine should fire. I think you will find the mixture is too rich, maybe caused by a stuck choke plunger or a build up of crystaline fuel in the carb. maybe clean the carb out and check the jets if you are uncussesful in getting it running correctly.

good luck steve
