how can i fix a split in wooden bed beam?

the side beam of my pine bed split when I sat on it heavily - turns out there was a knot in the wood. I have been considering using Evo-Stik wood adhesive to mend it but I'm concerned it wont be strong enough. eventually I will replace the beam, but is there a temporary fix that would work to support the weight of two people?

pva wood glue is what to use and drill a small pilot hole and screw it together or use another piece of wood screwed to the beam to bridge and strengthen break point
