do you need to dis-connect the track rod end when changing struts?

do you need to seperate the track rod end on a 1997 vectra 1.8 LS saloon to replace the front suspension struts?

Undo the track rod end ball joint nut on the stub axle and if you have one use a ball joint splitter, if not turn the nut over, screw it back on until alnost flush with the top of the threaded portion then give it a hefty whack with a copper hammer following the line of the joint. It should free off and pop out. Dont be afraid to heat the stub axle a little around the joint but dont burn the rubber boots !!

Good luck Steve
