Battery test?

Testing battery off car after a 48hr trickle charge tests with digital display multimeter set to 20 dc the reading was -12.83.

Curious to know why it shows as minus I would expect it to show numbers without the - sign.
Thank you in anticipation.

Thanks!

Yep both right! wasn't concentrating when replacing damaged leads which sockets they were in thought I put them in the right ones but hadn't.

Only use it for low voltage or testing fuses cables ffor breaks. I respect mains and leave that to those who know.

It read as a minus because you had the positive lead on the neg terminal and the neg lead on the pos terminal.
Handy to know next time your tracing 240v cables where lighting switchwires are red/black (or brown/blue) instead of red/red (or brown/brown)
