My Zanussi FL828 fills drum and overflows!?

When I start a wash cycle the drum fills, then water starts pouring out from underneath. If I select spin, the water is removed from the drum ok.

Is there a sensor that detects the level of water in the drum? Or is there a sensor that gauges the amount of water that enters the drum? Or is it governed just by the timer (the timer does not move on from the start of the wash)?

I have taken off the top of the machine. Please let me know how to proceed and where the right bit is to look at. Thanks.

Yes the drum fills right up with water. I don't know where it was leaking from but plenty of water was coming out. I did not want to remove the whole of the rear of the machine if it is not necessary; where do I find the filter and its air chamber?

Is the machine over filling then. Can you see it getting above the top of the door glass?
on the back of the filter is an air chamber.this has a black hose that goes up to the pressure switch.the air chambers get blocked with gunk and scale and allow the machine to over fill.sometimes the black hose wears a hole through it and causes the same issue. You can clean the air chamber on the back of the filter housing but it is tricky.Sometimes fitting a whole new filter housing is as easy for cost
