Hi I've got a T5206 and it wont heat up - everything else works fine. i've cleaned out the exhaust and defluffed the heater and checked all the connections.
I've found out that there is a service programme for engineers to test components by pressing the low temp button 3 times and selecting a programme. When i checked the heater on this test it heated up within seconds so can't understand what is wrong.
Any ideas? Hope someone can help

Thank you so much for this, i unscrewed front and reset buttons on element and it is now heating again, i hate chucking stuff away. I had an engineer to fix my washing machine last week who took a look at it. As it is a commercial machine he didnt know where stuff was but said new element plus engineer would be 300 quid at least, was about to give up and chuck it then tried this....very happy girl!!

P.S. Yes you need to replace the relay if you have signs of hot terminals. Take a photo of the relay before removing any wires so you can refer back to it to check you have wired the new relay correctly. Cheers

Yes as i put in my second post the relay is a common failure. The melting is purely to do with the relays constant opening and closing and the high power and the terminals becoming loose and hot. Also gives off hot plastic smell. I had to look after a lot T5206 dryers for the NHS and faults were usually o/heat stat gone out, relay melt probs, and the carbon brush static collector arm on top of the drum worn to the point where it clatters. If you are running on a 13 amp plug and the fuse does not blow then it is not running 25amp. Cheers

Thanks for your last post which i 've ony just seen - yes did check heating via timed dry and did hear relay clicking in and out - think that is def where the burning smell was coming from - from what you've said it it likely that the relay internals are melted due to the burnt wires so i'll probably need to source a replacement from somewhere. Please let me know if I should check for any other problems that may have caused this.
The chap that sold it to me said they were prone to o/heat after a new element and i did think this was a bit odd.

Hi again and thanks for your help. Have checked continuity and all 3 stats ok - but on further checking have found that terminal 5 on the heater relay which has a double blue wire attached has a melted connector and burnt wire. Not sure where the wires go but it looks like up to the blower motor and not the heater. The blower has been working when I've run it but the burnt relay terminal probably accounts for the burning smell. Any idea why this has happened and do i need a new relay or can i just get a new connector for the blue wires? - Is it likely that there's something else wrong that caused this? Doesn't look burnt or melted anywhere else and i did think the blue wires were quite loose so maybe it wasn't connected properly which is why it has failed. Heater relay doesn't look damaged just a bit burnt on the metal post but rest of box ok.
I also am concerned about the ampage - i bought the machine believing it to be converted to a 13amps but wonder if it is still 25amp which could explain running probs - how would i be able to tell if it has been converted? Thanks so much for your help so far in getting to the bottom of this and sorry for all the questions - hopefully am much nearer to fixing it at last!

Just some added info that might help. The heater relay continually pulses on and off it does not stay on all the time. You can set the machine to run (on timed dry if you have it , if only sensor dry then put damp towels in or it will not run) then you should be able to hear the heater relay cutting in and out.When faulty sometimes the relay operates but does not make contact, or makes contact but does not release, both probs caused by relay internals melted. If relay sticks on ,the o/heat stat will go out. The fact the heater is new will not cause the stat to go out after all the whole machine was new once and i'm sure it wouldn't have had endless guarantee calls to reset the stat.Cheers

It is possible a temp control stat is faulty but I have never found this with this model. You can check the 3 stats on the heater have continuity (take one lead off the stat then check with meter) Very common is the orange heater relay but damage is usually visual melting. Recheck the stat you reset if it has gone out again then power has gone to the heater. On some t5206 dryers the blower motor is separate to the drive motor, if blower not running overheat stat will trip out almost immediately, and motor fault will usually be faulty capacitor Cheers

Thanks again for your help - when i checked the stats and defluffed the machine i also checked all the connections and didn't notice any obvious signs of melted wires anywhere. I did notice the orange box and checked for loose wires, but i will check this again. There has been a bit of a burning smell when i've run the machine but this has lessened since i defluffed it although there is a smell after its switched off and seems to come from inside the machine have checked the supply and load connections and all are ok so put it down to fluff build up. When i bought the machine i was told that it had recently had new heater elements and may throw the o/heat stat but i havn't been able to get it to heat at all apart from in the diagnostic prog. Is it possible that the stat needs replacing or the heater relay and how can i check for this? Thanks again

OK IF one clicked then it was the overheat stat and normally just resetting this brings the heater back to action but if you still have no heat but you know the heater is ok by diagnostic then I would check out the heater relay (the little orange box) in front of the heater, look for signs of melting around the terminals or wires burnt off. 9 times out of 10 the only probs with this model is o/heat stat or heater relay.If not this needs meter diagnosis. Thanks for your reply - I already tried that and got to the heater stats by taking the heater iff the bracket from underneath the machine - the stats were fluffy so i cleaned them off and one did click when i pressed them but it didn't make any difference - still no heat

Possibly overheat stat clicked out, there are three stats on top of the heater tube one has a resettable push button on it usually the one nearest the back . To reach it UNPLUG APPLIANCE then if its a vented dryer prise out the logo plate on the left hand side of the facia (looks like a soap box) then the screws behind it and around the doorway and the front of the machine will hinge open. Reach in and press the stats.If not this may be the heater relay intermittent may have to remove the bracket holding the heater relay to get hand in to stats Cheers
