Ravenheat Boiler not firing up?

I have a ravenheat combi boiler. It will not fire up when the heating is switched on. It will fire for the hot water but not the heating. any ideas ???
Ian Clark, April 2004
I have a Ravensheat Boiler CSI85. Today the heating would not fire up even though the hot water was ok. The external relay on the auto clicked in but no C/H.
I have just read the comments on your site regarding this fault.
Against what I thought would 'cure' it, I took your advice and gave the side of the boiler a bash with the flat of my hand. It honestly worked, it fired up the central heating. Not sure for how long, but we will see. Thanks

Nigel, July 2017
Just fitted a new ravenheat 85 and wouldn't fire up two days to find it was a faulty fan control panel

tony, December 2016
Ravenheat boiler been having trouble firing up for past 3 years , sometimes ok sometimes not but last night would not fire up at all , read on the forum to give it a thump on right hand side so went up into loft where it is situated and before I could thump it it suddenly ignited ! :o)

Nick, November 2016
I reset the clock by sticking a pen in the reset button. After I reset the correct time, it fired right up! No idea what that did, but nothing else worked............

John, September 2015
Gave mine a bang on the right hand side at the top of the boiler and it fired up straight away

Paul H, January 2015
Thanks for the advice, gave my boiler a good slap on the top right and it fired up first time.

Helen, December 2013
Same symptoms as Asley 2009 boiler will not fire up. Having to operate boiler by lowering control panel PCB on its hinges. All seems OK until panel is reseated. The PCB seems to be at fault, any clues?

Bill, August 2013
Hi I have a ravenheat 820/20 boiler the piolt light is on but it won't fire up, if I reset the boiler it will fire up for a second then cut out, I've had the thermocouple changed but still nothing any ideas please

Alan, January 2013
hi les if your boiler fires on dhw but not chtg the fault lies with the time clock if the clock is an inbuilt mechanicle timer or any other you can link this out and boiler will fire regarding pressure rise also check pump is spinning

elite plumbing and heating, December 2012
check the expansion vessel is not full of water you can do this by depressing the shreader valve air should be present if water appears a new vessel will be required ,,if air is preseant then possible blockage in pipe work from vessel to boiler it will require the pipe disconecting and blockage removed

elite plumbing and heating, December 2012
hi i have a ravenheat csi 120 t boiler not firing up but when it does the pressure goes round to over 3 bar any idea what the problem would be thanks

les, December 2012
hi no hot water or central heating code fault number 4 over heat lockout

les, December 2012
Had the same problem, the right hand thermistor failed on mine several times so eventually replaced with a clip on type and no further problems. Original is Ravenheat part no 0007ter05005/0 replacement is 0007son11010/0. Check the resistance should be between 1k & 20k

John Crosley, November 2012
Hi I had the same problem and I fixed it by putting the water pressure back up to 1.5/.8 and it worked fantastic.

Lee, November 2012
dose any one no were i can get a manual for ravenheat combi boil

darren, November 2012
Hi,
Does any one know the name of the plastic plugs that fit into the time clock. I need some new ones and some of the metal connectors that insert

I have a problem with my CSI 120 T boiler, the fan runs constantly when switched on even the the timer in he off position, when swithed to auto or on position it fires up and heats the rads for about a minutes then the burner knocks off, about 5 minutes later it starts to heat the water again, however the DHW seems to be working okay. Anyone have any ideas ?

Rog, February 2012
I had an issue with the heating not firing up, I took the red iginition box out th eboiler and opened it up. theres a shunt resister in the middle of the board which has completley burned through the board!!!
Cant enven tell what type of resister it is!!
Is this linked to the sticking relay issue??

Daz the electrician, February 2012
ravenheat just s h i t e full stop

mark rawlings leeds, January 2012
Hi, just fixed one.
If you have the red box, there are 3 relays, 2 are the same and one is different. The different one was sticking on.
£2.25 relay for a £130 ecu
Hope this helps

just had a new csi85aaa fitted, it would only fire up for about 15 seconds. took the control panel box off (2 plastic screws and 2 self tappers) and found the black connector with 3 spade terminals was detached from the diverter valve motor. after refitting this the boiler works fine.

ed van desdo, November 2011
Well I've just given my boiler a real good hiding and still nothing. It was worth a try though. No heating, no hot water. Just got a stop on and suddenly stopped working.

oh damn, November 2011
We have a problem now for over a few months. the system does not fire up at all for water or the heating system.
Gas man been 5 times replaced some parts work okay for a few days then back to the same problems.
If we switch it off and restart it sometimes work, but now not working at all ???
Tried again, after about 10 times fired up but only lasted for a few moments then switched off.
Show the pilot light be on all the time or not.

Gas man contacted Ravenheat to discuss but still no solution.
Water pressure is okay.
any one else have same problems

Kath, September 2011
I have a ravenheat combi boiler. It will not fire up when the heating is switched on. It will fire for the hot water but not the heating. any ideas ???

naheed rafique, July 2011
Hi all,
we have a ravenheat boiler and it's 3 years old. To get hot water through to the kitchen tap i have to run the hot water tap in the bathroom or turn the heating on and that also gets hot water to the kitchen. Not good with todays outside temperature :). turn the bathroom tap off and the kitchen tap water then goes cold again. Any help would be appreciated

debbie, June 2011
Been living with an LS80 for a while now. Just put a hose through the heat exchanger to get hw working again. You have to remove it from the boiler and take off the 3 way valve to do this. You have to be fairly confident and competent to do this. Use new washers on re-ssembly. Change the sensors on the hw and ch from time to time. Don't know about hitting it, but this always works for me.

Danny Kehoe, May 2011
Amazing, my bolier stopped working and after finding this forum and giving it a good thump on the top right it fired straight back up! Thanks for the tip chaps!

Al, April 2011
boiler keeps going on and off about every 15 seconds when heating is on hotwater ok

bill, March 2011
I have a ravenheat combi csi 85 A (T) the hot water works ok but, no heating. if you turn of the electric lift of the front panel and drop the instument panel undo the two screws and remove the back cover to expose the main pcb you will find to the left hand side has 6 terminals link out the2 marked room stat to eliminate it,then link out 2marked time clock it should fire up new clock=£32

coggdeville, February 2011
these boilers clog up the sensors... and the limescales messes it up

billlythekids, February 2011
Take off combustion chamber cover to reveal fan situated in top right hand corner ,spray shaft with wd 40 ,ensuring shaft spins freely, do this of course with mains turned off, parts used by ravenheat are mostly from roys joke shop ask any good gas fitter .

Please Help? just before i call out a plumber on a sunday, can anyone help??

My boiler Ravenheat RSF 100 ET Combi Boiler, stopped working whilst on yesterday..

The Pilot light comes on, ignition Clicks as though it is going to fire up and then nothing, the pilot light goes out and 15-20 seconds later it tries again..

The bar is 1.25 and the appears to have no visable leaks..

I know thats probably really vague and i have tried Hitting the top right hand corner.. It felt great to take my frustration out.. but alas no CH or HW

Please Help... Hannah

hannah, January 2011
The fn is located top right. Try a good old bang or a bit of WD40 on it.

Rav n Heat, January 2011
my bolier is firing up but then overheating in about half an hour and the pilot light cuts out and trips the whole system off. British Gas have spent 3 days on it and still don`t know what the problem is

A morgan, January 2011

OMG ravenheat boiler not been working for over 2 wks, gave it a good hit! top right hand side and it worked within mins! No engineer would touch it! Thanks for the tip!

Paula, January 2011
I have a Ravenheat system boiler and the thing wouldn't work when installed. Tried the helpline and ended up with Bob the Harley rider from Blackburn. After taking position on a suitably comfortable chair in front of the boiler he removed the front cover and and pronounced that the pressure switch in the flue was of the incorrect type, he then fitted the requisite replacement. The boiler still didn't fire so he twa*ed it adjacent to the gas valve, the boiler then fired up; he is a Harley rider after all.

Pete the Feet, January 2011
The boiler won't fire up at all. The gas light appears when it has tried to fire up

Brenda, December 2010
look timing clock on the main board i think you can by pass the 2 wires and link together -if no manual
you can down load one

keith, December 2010
hi ravenheat boiler not igniting
due to frost condencer pipe that runs out side has frozen water backed up -drips fell onto ignition box
new box £190 SORTED CURE BIGGER WAST PIPE

keith maynard, December 2010
TURN THE ELECTRIC OFF FIRST then check and replace BOTH thermisters even if one is faulty, you can check them with a multimeter set to ohms, should be approx 18kohms.
to check the pressure diaphram located at the top right hand of the unit (as you look at it) use something like a turkey baster of small bellows and pump and suck some air into the free pipe, you should hear some clicking, or you could use a multimeter.

skoob, December 2010
I have a service contract with British Gas & have complained for over a year re hot water cutting out. Remedies have included flushing,(twice), new fan, which had stuck, & blowing dust off interior. Last service the engineer shrugged & said in effect, if you will buy cheap boiler this is as good as it gets. (banging with fist didn't work!)
I emailed Ravenheat & armed with their recommend to replace thermistor gave it to different engineer. He was amused, but did it. Temp. increased dramatically, but still cut out at 80. Bless him, he then fiddled for over an hour & yesterday replaced both heat exchanger & divertor valve. Excellent constant hot water!! Well worth the annual BG service charge alone!
Without that email I think I would have been fobbed off again, so it's worth going to the horse's mouth!

ghunter, December 2010
OMG been fiddling all evening, a bang at the top right and it fired up straight away, magic!!!

Sarahk1977, November 2010
My burner fire's untill it reaches its temp and then dose not come back on I have replaced the thermostat the one with the 2 terminals ?????

Willie, November 2010
This might help somebody...got a ravenheat combi boiler, about 3 yrs old. Woke up this cold and frost morning to find the heating hadn't come on. Went up the loft (where the boiler is) and realised the pressure had dropped to well below 1 bar. Transpires a thermo rad valve had leaked overnight cos I'd got the rad removed for some decorating, hence the drop in pressure. So I went about refitting the rad and refilling the system only to fine that it wouldn't fire up when I'd finished. Tried thumping the top, side and front to no avail and eventually turned everything off drained it down and stripped the air pressure relief valve down (located top right behind the plenum chamber cover) to clean it. Put it all back together, filled again and tried it turning on the hot tap first...hey presto hot water. It came and went a few times and then came back for good. Flicked it over to water and heating and the rads came on too - well pleased cos it's saved me the plumber's call out charge of £55!! One question though, does anyone know whether or not it would fire up with the plenum chamber cover removed? I'm guessing not but would appreciate a confirmation if anyone knows??

Dan, October 2010
Hi also had the same problem followed the advice of a thump on the top right of the boiler. Now working its a miracle!

Rachael, October 2010
also had a problem with the heating not working, gave the boiler a bang in the top right corner and hey presto it works!! Thank you everyone for your help.

livla, October 2010
i have an rsf84et and had problems of no pilot light which i then got a new ignition board which did not cure the problem as it was a ingnition cable postioning problem but with the pilot working i still did not have main burner lighting i refered too the fault sheet and said that the gas valve would be at fault i again got a new one on ebay as it only cost £56 instead of £170 and again it did not fix the fault so i had pilot working but no main burner , i contacted the seller on ebay and it turned out he was a heating engineer and he rang me and said althought the ravenheat boiler was c'#p the problem would be the pilot assembly ,i ordered a new one and it looked the same but shiney , i replaced it convinced it would not work but too may amazement it work first time ,quite a common problem i have heard since ,hope this helps some or you ravenheat customers out there

david mc, September 2010
boiler will not fire up

janet, August 2010
ive fixed my father in laws twice in 18 months sisterinlaws and my own by doing this , unscrew the thumb screw on top of the boiler where the white outlet pipe is , ,now useing a long straw spray WD40 into the straw so it go's down the hole, this will lubricate the fan that gets stuck from time to time , which sparks up the system only when the front cover and seal are refitted if you have taken them off , ,hope this helps

bob the builder, July 2010
I have read the 'trouble shooting' page in the users manual and it seems to point to the Microswitch, mentioned a number of times in these very helpful questions and answers, problem for me is... I can't find the Microswitch! I have a breakdown (fig 1) of all parts but it doesn't mention it! Is it called something else in the illustration? Am I missing something. Can someone help me find the Microswitch?

Smelly Pole Cat, July 2010
My hubby and I have gone mad repairing this boiler with either the diaphragm bring replcaed or thermo costing us an arm and leg each time. I've read this forum and hey presto two hard smacks to the top left and up and running dented the husbands ego but wot the hell happy days. Those who added the useful advise well done and humble thank u. I will now have clean and dry knickers again ;-)

Mrs happy, July 2010
Hi
I would just like to say thanks to this forum i have just gone through all the replies and we have just used the advice from madrigaul and the boiler now works a treat!!!!
The problem was no hot water only on CH.
Took out the microswitch gave it a 30 sec blowout and it now works fine.

Corinne Thorpe, May 2010
i have just had the problem with ravenheat combi not firing up on hot water only, phoned ravenheat tech services who told me to check the micro switch on the diverter valve. got home from work and did what they told me to do and bingo it worked.something that the service engineer couldnt do even after 6 visits.so if you have a problem with your boiler check with tech services first, they have the better knowledge.

peter b, May 2010
Ravenheat RSF 82E pilot lights but the ignighter keeps going and the main burner wont fire up then it all stops after about 30 seconds. Help !!!!!!!!

Mark Peters, May 2010
I had exactly the same problem. It was the fan modulating pcb board, a small board situated nesr the main board. Cost of board is approx. £25

howard, May 2010
most probably the timer. The relay inside not making a contact. You can test by bypassing it. there should be a twin grey wire connector on the main board. remove it and bridge the connections on the board with a paperclip or similar. if the boiler fires it was the timer.

Noel, April 2010
Have a Ravenheat boiler .. been fitted for about 4 years .. no problems for the first 2 years but then have had continual problems since then .. after paying for a few repairs and parts we signed up for British Gas Homecare and have had to call them out numerous times .. they have replaced every possible part but the problem has never been fully resolved for any length of time .. intermittent fault where the hot water only works when the CH is switched on .. when CH off we either only get luke warm water or the boiler fails to fire up at all. Occasioanlly the boiler will fail to fire up at all. British Gas coming tomorrow to replace the diverter valve and heat exchange unit (parts which were replaced once about a year ago!) .. we also have a constant leak which several engineers have claimed to fix but to no avail!! Engineer today tried to tell me that when they replace the parts they will check the quality of the water in the system and if no good we will need to flush the system and add some sort of magnetic valve to the system, for which they will charge us £250 .. he said this may be the cause of the repeated problem .. is he talking rubbish and trying the get some money out of us?

Julie, March 2010
Ravenheat finally fixed it raised flue turned radiator heat to min and then changed the timing on the firing up to fire up in under 10 seconds so when the hot tap was turned on it fired up and did not go on to lock out which apparently it does after 15 seconds

Laura Guy, March 2010
My 84E has just got the 7 year itch!
If we turned hot water tap on full, we got ice. Ideal if you need waking up! Eventually, we lost heat and water (all). Got British Gas out on their £164 deal (repair regardless of labour & parts) and they said it's probably the board. Which board? Something to do with relays. Narrowed it down to this: When heating is ok, we turned down the ch knob and when we turned it up again (next day), the radiators started to warm, then the heating died again. Any clues? By the way, I will chase up British Gas, for isn't a 'board' a part? And should they be replacing a faulty part?

SamiLewis, February 2010
we have had 3 combi boilers in 12 years each one develops faults with no CH or HW some expell all the water others just refuse to fire up. Our current boiler is Raven heat we have had every part available even a new flue, but still the boiler shuts down everytime the HW is turned on and also intermittenly when it feels like it any ideas Ravenheat haven't got any they have been out twice it still isn't working

Laura Guy, February 2010
Ravenheat CSI Primary - intermittent fault where the "Flame Failure" light comes on. Finally traced the fault to a partially blocked pilot light jet. This jet is located in the base of the pilot light, remove the gas pipe (m10 spanner) and the jet falls out. It has two very small holes for gas to pass through, clean with a fine nylon brush (your wifes toothbrush should do it) or compressed air. Since cleaning mine, working like new.

PeterH411, February 2010
To all you wonderful people who suggested giving the boiler a good thump -THANKS! Not only have I got the thing working again but it was a truly wonderful experience, which I tried to add to by giving the hateful swine another working over, only to find I'm too old now and couldn't kick high enough.

Stephen "Old but happy" Campbell, February 2010
same problem heating ok luke warm dhw what is a thermister and are they ok to fit will try give it a bang

paul hull, February 2010
hot water luke warm, ch ok. dont buy the whole diverter housing, they do cost. Just buy the rubber diaphram for around £5, it does the trick

al, January 2010
Boiler tries to fire up,tried everything to start it resorted to a good thump around top
of boiler fired up straight away.Warm again will get plumber round to carry out annual service.

wilko, January 2010
hi have been reading about banging boiler, i have a 820/20t have just replaced 3 way valve and dhw thermostat boiler firers up as it should but dhw is just luke warm, any ideas please.

deno, January 2010
Mine wouldnt fire up, the pilot light came on then there was a clicking sound, after about 5-10 seconds the pilot went out again. After hitting it and twiddliing with all the wires it evenyually started but then cut out again. I kept trying the same routine for about half an hour and eventually it came on. I've left it on now for a few days, so fingers crossed.

Steve, January 2010
Hi thanks for the reply, I discovered last night that is I turn the hot water on full from off instead of partially on, it fires up and heats the water albeit luke warm. Had a shower this morning adopting the same approach, turned it on full, fired up, luke warm shower. Now it wont fire up at all even if I turn the tap on full. I think its taking the p*ss out of me ;)

Hugh, January 2010
Recently looked at a friend`s RSF84et . Not firing up
relays clicking no fan & no flame red led lighting.
Plummer had advised a new pcb was required at about £200 . Found out be trial & error (no circiut diagram)
that first relay closes & pump starts 2-3 secs later another click & centre relay closes this is supose to operate top fan motor but wasn`t .cause of fault centre relay closing but no AC being switched.

cured by removing relay with soldering iron & braid.using small flat blade removed black plastic cover cleaned & retension of contacts refitted now working ok no £200, no parts replaced , very happy friend !!

Dave R, January 2010
My Ravenheat ls80 has a similar problem. The CH works fine but just today the hot water stopped working completely. I have tinkered to do a little trial and error. I found that if I unplug the CH thermister nothing works at all, plugged back in CH works (no HW). When the DHW thermister is plugged in or unplugged it doesnt work (CH works). When I turn the tap on the fan kicks in but the pilot light doesnt.

I am going to try and fit new thermisters tomorrow but any ideas other that hitting it very hard it specific places?

Hugh, January 2010
Hi michelle
. in the boiler ther is an automatic air vent that has a little cap on it.... it looks lyk a dust cap on a tyre of a car. make sure thats open, make sure the pressure is on 1.5bar on the pressure guage. try that.... it has just gone into lock-out. switch on/off at the mains to reset if u cant find the reset button. hope it helps

john evans, January 2010
i have had a leaking pipe under my floor and we lifted floor and fixed it and then turned on heating it all fired up for about 2 min then everything went off and wont fire up again is there a reset button or something,, im cold

michelle, January 2010
Yes I tried the technical approach and gave it a tap on the top right hand side and by magic it worked. Thank God for the internet. A triumph for brute force and ignorance and a good wallop.

Paul, January 2010
check microswitches making//or timeclock or roomstat by linking out in main board connection

patrick cronin, January 2010
Yes a punch on the top right of boiler tends to do the trick but it is not 'necessarily' the thermostat or thermister? as I have just discovered on my 7 year old RSF84e unit! On my boiler it turned out to be the air pressure switch which is above the thermostat at the top right of boiler which is very sensitive to the air flow through the boiler to prevent you getting CO poisoning. If you think this could be the fault and you are a "competent" d.i.y.er then first check your fan is operational and the flue is not blocked with a birds nest or any other debris which would restrict air flow and cause the air valve to shut down the boiler like it is supposed to! A new one is easy to fit. First isolate power and remove front outer casing then the front inner boiler casing which has approx 12 scews taking care not to damage rope fibre air seal as you lift away (seal should stay contained in the recess in the cover) Air switch is now visible and accessable at top right of unit. Remove and replace, making sure you have a good seal on the tube that connects to the flue and the 3 electrical spade fittings go back on the corresponding terminals. Better still a qualified Plumber should be able to do it in around 30minutes or so if he is honest he should not bill you too much...hmmmm? The switch itself costs £30 to £60 ish depending on model/part No. NB Please dont attempt to do this yourself if your not competent.

rorygee, January 2010
Am finding we need to bang it pretty much all the time now, doesnt seem to want to stay on!!! Any ideas? Replace thermister?? Help! Just as its pretty much minus temps everyday!!!!

Vicky, January 2010
Just laughed so hard i cried after trying for ages to fire it up we thumped the top right & it started in seconds!!!!!!

Warm again!!!, December 2009
Same symptoms as many others; 4 year old CSI85T boiler no hot water or heating. Tried tappng it as others have stated and wiggling yellow wires - no luck. Tempory solution was to switch off, drop timeswitch contol panel forward (it hinges) and switch on again. Boiler goes througn all usual relay clicks, then fires up. Will ring Raven heat tomorrow as I think this is a new PCB needed - it will be one of the relays as these are the only moving part. Hope this helps someone.

Nigel Ashley, November 2009
Hit is sharply on the right hand side and it fired up!!! Didn't touch the operating dials or instructions!
thanks all :-)

Padams, October 2009
My boiler stopped heating water during a shower flame out light came on . Plumber told me to thump it hard on top right hand side worked a treat said it is usually the thermistor on ravensheat boilers and it wll go again but its ok for now

Don, August 2009
read similar problems to mine on this page, hit my boiler as mentioned, didnt fix it so i hit it again really hard. still didnt sort it but felt good, im going to hit it again tommoro.

steven nixon, May 2009
sounds like the central heating thermister, which is on the right hand side, your best bet is to get the new thermister which just clips on the pipe no need to drain the system,

adrian, February 2009
after about an hour messing about i hit it, and it started working lol

joe, January 2009
having read the "turn on the hot tap for 3 seconds and slap the top of the boiler instructions" i was amazed when the boiler sprang into life!!! thanks eyerybody who uses the site.

jward57, January 2009
check the diverter valve pin is moving in and out and making contact with the microswitch which changes the operation from heating to hot water and visa versa, its at the bottom of the boiler with the pipework going into it, looks like a regulator, disc ish in the middle. (has a diagphram inside which splits preventing the pin moving making contact)

paul, November 2008
I have a 4 year old Ravenheat LS 80 (T). Mine was refusing to fire up for hot water or central heating. (not ideal). With a series of quite un-scientific poking and prodding i have managed to get it functioning as it should. Turned out that a good wiggle of the central heating sensor/thermistor wires solved the problem. These are a pair of yellow wires going into the pipe just down from the overheat thermostat. I would like to know if possible where Alan who also posted a response this month, got his thermistors from "at £3.50 each". Answers on a postcard to peterrobinson211@hotmail.com would be gratefully recieved. Hope this is helpful to someone. Thanks.

Pete, October 2008
Mine was the time clock , two wires (both grey) on contacts 3&5 , rearranged the wiring so the clock was by-passed and hey presto both hot water and heating albiet on constant fo now. new timer required but at least its close to being repaired and cost me nowt so far. If the boiler works fine on HW but dead as a dod on heating try the clock connection but only if you are confident with electrics and have the original userbook with the wiring diagram to refer to , good luck anyway

JIMBO, October 2008
Quite possibly just a thermistor - I had a problem with intermittent hot water from a LS100T - solved by replacing the CH thermistor, not the DHW one! I would replace bother CH and DHW thermisters (I found them at £3.50 each). You need to drain the boiler (not the whole system), which is a piece of cake.

Alan, October 2008
A common fault in these boilers is the air pressure switch sticking. Somewhere near the top right corner, inside the firebox, there's a small diaphram connected to a microswitch. (Top left on LS series I think). This switch is made by Honeywell, and can either be replaced, about £20 on ebay, or taken out and worked a bit. It only has 35 millibar to switch with normally, so a bit of dust or tightness can stop it switching. If you take it out, then fairly gently blow and suck into the white tube, you should hear it click. Give it a 30 second blow/suck workout, and it should go on for a few months, or years if you're lucky. Incidentally, THIS is the valve that Ravenheat ask you to bang the case to operate. NOT the injectors!

Madrigaul, September 2008
Got exactly the same problem with my boiler. It is just over a year old and I have spent more hours fixing it then it has working! I have no water or heat and now going through the process of checking everything. I,m guessing it will be the thermo in the boiler stopping it from working.

Lee, July 2008
Hi, I came across this question on a general hunt for what the hell could have gone wrong with my ravenheat boiler. It heated the radiators fine, but not the water - unless the radiators were already on.
I found various solutions, including smacking it hard (more than happy to do that one), switches, three-way valves and all kinds.
I eventually just bit the bullet and got a very reputable plumber in...he opened it up....looked at it for 5 seconds and said "it's your thermistor" (possibly mis-spelt).
He was right as well - £20 part, £40 to fit it - now working a treat.

Dave, September 2007
just had mine done it was the timer £80 supllied n fitted

tony bull, November 2006
I have the Ravenheat 820/20, I am having the same problems with no hot water or central heating. Where exactly do I HIT the boiler and HOW HARD??

I have the same problem but no heating nor hot water. A phone call to the service department told me to turn on the hot water, give it three slaps at the top. It works every time. Another phone call back to Ravensheat and the service desk told me to clean out the air pressure switch or worst case replace it and we would not have to slap the boiler again! Hmmm!

My boiler wouldn't fire up for CH or hot water. I telephoned Ravenheat on 01132527007. They said it sounded like the injector was blocked. They told me to turn on the hot tap and give my boiler a good, hard thump at the top right hand side!! Well it worked, it was fixed in about 3 seconds!
