Scantronic 9800?

Over the past year I've had 2 alarm system's fitted in my home, Yes it is Ridiculous, We had the First alarm fitted in 1996 Was Veritas R8 I think my wife complained about How shabby it looked So I Got a new one installed That was the best alarm I had never a problem, So I get a new alarm installed by Hsi last December That Had a tamper issue for over 3 month's until they came and " Fixed it " 2 months later it wailed to be serviced, So I completely Gave up on them,Called Astra they came Quoted me an alarm Got it installed and I think the panel Now is a Scantronic 9800 I'm not going to Lie that is the worst alarm That I have had Installed Crashes all the time I have had 3 engineers here this month this also wailes tamper but only once every blue moon But I have gave up with that also being such a problem, but these days you need an alarm but I can't just exactly Take it out forever?

What could the problem be?, Am I just unlucky or something? Help !!!

Tamper crash 4 days has probably been the longest i have the reset code which sometimes i'm lucky and the tamper light goes out

Craig, if you are still around, you say the panel 'crashes', could you give a description of the 'crash' please, you never know what you might write that might make one of our brain cells wake up:-)

Then we could possibly use what you say to help others in the future.

Me is an extra old faaaart :D

Most of these young engineers don't know what the ACT verifier is or how to use one nowadays :)

acorn,i agree with you,the guys on here are all old farts now :-) but,and its a big but,we know our stuff as yoiu know, and we also know how good the 9800 is am with you on this one he should get some one who knows what they are doing, not a 6 week wonder !

As I said before, the problem is with the alarm company (engineers).
It seems as though they don't know what they are doing, tracing faults can be exasperating but with a little knowledge and common sense it should not be a problem.

Do they have meters and use them to check the cables etc? If they don't, ask them for your money back and get someone else in.

yes well I haven't bought the panel yet but i truly give up with this alarm system Maybe its just the old wires in my house can't manage it anymore, they should of re wired everything

Craig, March 2013
and the guys on here are not making fun of you,but for gods sake,a yale ?????? i know your not an engineer,or you would know what we are talking about its only fit for a dogs kennal,(and thats if your not too fussed about your dog )

Don't forget to get your money back.

As has been said, the 9800 is a VERY reliable panel, the problem IS with your installer.

How long ago did you buy this now obsolete control panel?

Were you told that it is an obsolete panel, some years now?

acorn, March 2013
e manno,a yale ?????? cant believe it,a yale ????? rip out a 9800 for a yale,i have never had a scanny panel crash, never, and we have fitted one hell of a lot of them, craig, its easy to prog coz its junk,as you will soon find out, tell your insurance comp that you fitting a yale, and when they finish laughing they will give you a qoute

gts, March 2013
Really, Christ I've heard it all now,

Who in their right mind rips out a SCANTRONIC ! And fits a Yale.

The 9880's that I've worked with don't crash,it's us engineers that crash and reprog them for obvious reasons, but saying that it's possible for yours to have developed a fault???.

Why not replace with newer model?,

Scantronic is a very reliable panel :)

I've purchased a yale alarm so I'm going to somehow take the scantronic out, the yale alarm looks easy to install thanks for the help

Craig, March 2013
This 100% crashes

Craig, March 2013
the 9800 is one of the best panels money can buy, buts its obsolete, and its VERY reliable,i would say you have a problem elsewhere with your system, and your engineers, get someone who knows what they are doing to check the entire system,9800,s do not crash
