craftsman riding mower, model, 917271080, 16 hp?

My lawnmower will start and run, but as soon as I let up on the clutch it quits running, any ideas on what might be wrong with it?

yeah your saftey switch on the seat is shorting out or just push the clutch in and out 100 times the saftey switch might be faulty

I agree. Mine did the exact same thing and it was the safety switch under the seat. Not that I am saying to leave it this way, but you can unplug the switch and jump a wire back into the plug to see if that is the problem. If that is not it, you could check your mower engage safety switch also.

That sounds like a faulty safety switch.
Check the switch under the seat to be sure it's depressing when there is weight on the seat. Or it could be the clutch/brake switch. Tracing down the bad one can be challanging.
