Iam at the end of my tether with this old alarm that is not used by us so I'm going to try and disconnect it for good but I'm having problems with it activating when I turn the mains off or disconnect the battery or vice versa. Is there any way I can stop it ringing without taking down the bell box?,I'd like to keep the White bell box up there to act as a visual deterrent.
sorry e manno,me stuck my head up there nearly got it blown off,was only doing what was asked of me,mia culpa !:-)

Ain't this how to mend it not how to kill it :D,
Don't be a tight arse and treat it to a new battery or better still a service,
Hope you never find yourself in a situation where you need to push the panic button?
Be safe.
Oh and by the way if it's one of those wireless jobbies it's defo "tat".

no,you have to remove the mains power, open panel disconnect the battery, your not fin yet,get your ladders out and disconnect the sab in bell box,or,wait for 2 or 3 hours till the sab battery dies

its tat !!!!!

I did not refer to it as tat,it's a visonic so if that makes it tat then so be it.my main aim now is a disconnection since it is not used by us anymore.I presumed that I could pull it's power and that would be it.

Of course you can disconnect your alarm with out it sounding. NOT.
It's an ALARM system for heavens sake. What is so difficult to understand about that?
By the way, it is doing exactly what it should in the situations you mention.

What is this 'tat' you have?
Why is everything tat when there are problems? Knowing nothing about alarm systems does not make it tat.
Ever got someone in to service it and explain how it works, of course you haven't.

Why keep the sounder?
It is tat as you say.
Does nothing.
