Forum for the engineers?

was replacing an alarm yesterday came across thiss really old flashguard activert bell box (klaxon) which where in working order before removed its 100% ancient because theflashguards had the green&red l.e.d's

well anyqay i have an optima G4 pcb at home but im struggling to wire this bell up as its nothing like the upgraded flashguards the terminals on it are tamp, supply which are 3 terminals so all together it has 4 terminals and on the optima its strobe (+ -) scb(T A) bell( + -) i know that you have to loop some of the wires

any of you guys know how to do this Im an engineer but this is tricky

Cheers :)

What I can't get over is we got the ion panel for around 80 quid and the sounder was as much as the ion, additional beams and reeds are over priced also.

The panel looks great in design but the sounder looks and feels cheap for it's price in my opinion.

one more thing e manno, dont waste your time with the radio keypad for the i-on,apart from being VERY expensive, its rubbish its just an on off switch, you cant reset the panel with it,stick with the wired keypad that comes in the box,(Sorry scantronic)but i speak the truth !

Thanxs gts :)

I've never fitted one mate,I've only done the risk assessments and pre installation checks.

We only use them when hard wiring can't be used due to the construction or fabric of the building plus their expensive.

Cheers :)

i did it once,never again :-)

gts, April 2013
e manno, may i give u a bit of advice, and the rest of the guys here,if you fit the i-on panel,do not prog it to flash the strobe once its set,coz the customer will drive u nuts by saying it not flash when set,(coz they miss the flash )

We have a at least three takeovers with the cequras fitted, must be nearly 20 yrs old and still going strong :),

But yeh there's no gain in Db between the new standard and plus sounder's which as you know has higher Db,s than a lot of sounder's out there and they don't have crappy led strobe's.

e manno, April 2013
and we only use the single pizo one e manno, coz truth to be told we did tests and found they just as loud as the double units why pay extra for zilch :-)

gts, April 2013
Good gear gts unfortunately we can't get it after a big fall out with osl group (big legal stuff),nothing wrong with their equipment I assure you of that.

Long story mate it was a bit of a legal wrangle that's all :)

But yeh great sounder's and cones :)

e manno, April 2013
hi e manno we use multibox by cqr, have tried loads but like these units, never had any probs with them,up till now anyway :-)

gts, April 2013
Hey gts we have around 40ish flashguard compacts in use.

It's all about the money, dum,dum,did,did,di,dum :D,

Klaxon ain't bad for their smokes stuff and of course the master blaster but in my opinion that's it,oh and i'am pretty sure we have some access ir stuff from them as well.

e manno, April 2013
What you using now gts if you don't mind me asking :)

e manno, April 2013
No ain't had no probs with the tex oddys certainly not their piezo's, the odd rear tamper issue but nothing for any major concerns.

e manno, April 2013
we used elmdene for years but they put up price so we dropped them they would not compromise, and that was a pity

gts, April 2013
Agreed the 9800 is brill !.
We never had any probs with tex at this end,

We got a good deal on the quartz from elmdene at the moment so we use them for grade two and three fixes,

Grade four is my fave sounder (rapier) best sounder by far,we can get them cheaper this year so we fit until their discontinued.

e manno, April 2013
never,ever kill a 9800 if its working ,never !:-)its a sin !

gts, April 2013
in my humble opinion best panel scanny ever made as u said nothing goes wrong :-) with then,(except the users )

gts, April 2013
9800,s are brill we fitted thousands o them treat em good they look after you

gts, April 2013
I see but I didn't fit this bell box It was what we took out yesterday but Obviously back in 1980's I didn't fit flashguards untill the early 90's In 1993 I think We fitted flashguard's In a new built estate with 9800's Was Replacing the battery in one the other week Every alarm we fitted was still installed !! that's why we like scantronics because nothing goes wrong they all probably need new batteries around the estate

But if I remember correctly We Had the bell's on battery back up and there some noisy bell box's When the power goes, The 9800 was also in sweet condition I feel today they need to be upgraded but If it's still going then let it be :)

Nick, April 2013
i have a scanny panel,32 years old nick still working great customer wanted it replaced coz it not fit in with her new decor,,thats why we only fit scantronic panels, coz they work !!!! :-) we never use lower end panels or bell boxes ,we leave that to electricians

gts, April 2013
Well My company have always fitted klaxon flashguards you see so It was like a shock, We don't buy texecom bell box's due to the cheep sounders they f*** up to easily bell box's like that

Have you seen the sort of new bell box's by pyronix?, we got some in couple of month ago also cheap crap, we sold them in our shop instead of installing them

We don't fit optima haha I have like a box full of alarm panels just to gander with, got the flashguard up and running by the way Strobe worked for 10 mins ! dead now, The sounders also dying, The battery believe it or not is still working fine and them bell box's are at least 18-20 years old was shocked

Nick, April 2013
sorry cant help you i have no experience with flashgaurd stuff or optima,we rip em out never fix em :-)

gts, April 2013
ah,sorry nick,ur playing with it,my apols its just the way it read

gts, April 2013
No gts you hjave miss understood, we fitted a new system at a warehouse but I brought this bell box back because it was ancient and Because I hadn't seen one in a long time I've managed to power the thing up

Nick, April 2013
and am sure the rest of the guys on here will agree

gts, April 2013
it seems strange to bother with old tat like that, you said you replacing the alarm, but then you say u fitting old pc board,y not fit a proper panel and bell box???that makes more sence ,you start messing around like this u will b in a world of the brown stuff, fit new gear, then u can sleep at night ,fit a scantronic panel nick with a good quality bell box
