Hotpoint Aquarius 1000 washing machine won't take fabric softener?

My washing machine for some reason won't take fabric softener, it used to! It is taking the washing powder but the fabric softener just stays in its compartment, have had the drawer out and cleaned it all but still no success, please help!

take out the soap box again and gently fill the fabric section to the top with water, if it doesnt drain it is still clogged , if it drains the solenoid valve must be fauty and not letting in water to flush out the conditioner
