I am in the process of repairing my wife's Singer sewing machine. I have ordered a new Vertical Plastic Gear, and want to ensure that I reassemble the unit properly. I plan on thoroughly Cleaning & Lubricating it as I go. Can anyone give me any tips, as well as mistakes I need to avoid? Thanks for your precious time!

nothing to it if you good with your hands,easy tip is to drill a 6mm hole at back of machine in line with gear grub screw if not bit difficult to get to the screw.just remember you will have to set timing again
