Ravenheat boiler ( ye i know there s*&%e )?

Hi Guys

My Ravenheat boiler works very intermittently , it can run for most of the day , both DHW & CH , then eventually it`ll cut out , I then need to switch the boiler off at the mains and wait , at first it would come on after a couple of hours , now its a couple of days , as soon as its on it operates normally , any ideas ??

thanks

to insult a persons trade when you have no skills in it is very bad ,and to insult the engineers who have spent 5 or more years learning their trade is deplorable ,you should be ashamed of yourself ,condemnat qui non intelligent !

we have very good gas guys in Scotland ,they fully qualified and do not cheat people,so peccavi, you speak for your English gas guys ,and I bet they wont be happy with your appraisal of them, hope your micro wave skills have improved :-)

and that's a bit low !

your talk is on your intellect peccavi :-)

god u make me laugh peccavi you have no technical skills in this field but but you presume to tell the people that their gas guy try to rip em off,bet ur a lot of fun at parties :-)listen people get at least 3 quotes for work and get written ones from each stating what the cost will be and what the fault is but for gods sake,if you live in Glasgow, dont heed pecavvi,s lead !

Of course you can always remain silent and hope that you've got lucky and that the engineer has your best interests in mind rather than his own - most of them will be good - it's just that the wrong-uns will cost you - unnecessarily.

Pity the poor Gas Safe Engineer - we should not hurt his feelings.

how to make friends and influence people ,you go down pecavvi route do not be surprise if the engineer tells you where to go,and if you live here in Glasgow ,you know exactly what I mean !:-)

When the boiler is asked to fire up (call for heat) first the fan runs then a pressure switch senses that the fan's running OK then the pilot light comes on and then a sensor tells the control board that the pilot flame is good and hot and then the main gas valve is opened.

You do not say if any of these things are happening with your boiler.

My old Potterton had a habit like the one you describe - sometimes well behaved and other times not - it used to stall with the pilot flame burning and just sit there refusing to go any further.

Grit had got into the pilot injector - the hole was partially blocked and the flame not hot enough to trigger the sensor - a specialist engineer cleaned it out for me and restored the flame to full strength - problem solved.

You would do well to call in an expert but be warned - a few Gas Safe engineers change things willy-nilly until they find the cause of the problem - and you pay.

Ask the engineer when you call him if he does proper troubleshooting - analytical diagnosis - or if he just messes around changing things on spec.

Do not be afraid to challenge him and say, "What do you mean by - it's gone ? - what does gone mean? How do you know it's gone? - Show me."

Good luck...
