Scantronic 9800 programmable outputs not responding?

I can't get either programmable output 1 or 2 to work. I have the manual, and have reprogrammed the whole system OK after a NVR reset. (I needed to reset the engineer code). Everything else works exactly as it should. I can test the outputs (95,96), which respond correctly, either going high or low depending on the setting. I've set them to go positive and follow the bell (1108, 1208), but neither responds when the bell sounds (91). Am I doing something wrong, or is it broken ?

Hi, I'm looking to use these outputs to send me an email when the alarm goes off. Did you get the outputs to follow the bell?

Well, I think its working, so it must be me. If I enter 1158, output 1 goes high when in walk test mode. If I enter 1128, then it goes high when the alarm system is set. So far, so good. What I can't get it to do is follow the bell output. Setting 1108 has no effect. I've tried all the other codes as well, just in case the manual was in error. No luck. I've tried activating the bell in both test and full alarm set modes. Nothing.
Is there someting about 'follow bell' that I'm misunderstanding. I'd assumed that when the bell is activated, then the output should change state.

Any ideas anyone ? Has anyone actually used this feature ?

Thanks
