how to test my lazyboy ac adaptor ?

my lazyboy chair is 2 years old. the ac adaptor in made by IN SEAT SOLUTIONS INC. IN SEAT NO:15531
MODEL NO: APX6636001
INPUT : 120V AC 60HZ 65W
OUTPUT:12V AC 4170MA
CLASS 2 TRANSFORMER
Im starting here to find the problem why the chair will not work. I can't afford the $95 service charger plus parts. And any addition $95 service charger if he can't fix in one trip. I have it replace my store, they said it being warm was not a problem. the second one did the same thing.
the chair is like new. it not been use in the last year.

How to test your adaptor?

I would use a multimeter set to AC Volts - most people don't have one but Amazon ($3) or Radio Shack will sell you one very cheaply. Alternatively a very low wattage 12V auto bulb and a couple of bits of wire to see if anything is coming out of the transformer.

Adaptors often fail if the user needs to coil up the wire on a regular basis - the conductors in the cable can stretch and ultimately break where there's a tight bend in the wire - if you coil up your adaptor cable you might consider this as a potential problem.

Small appliance power adaptors often run slightly warm - if they're at room temperature they're probably dead.

Good luck...
