my bmw 330d 2003 model looses power in high refs what can it be?

my bmw drives ok as long as i keep it belowe 3000 refs. when i go between 3000 and 4000 refs it start loosing power and starts to jerk. when i let go of the ecelirator it returns to normal again. what could cause this.

Has it been serviced and up to date filters?It is very difficult to determine faults on modern veh`s and a code reader may bring up some fault codes to look into,other than that it would be guessing and that can cost a fortune and get no further forward.
