Scantronic 9651 "Sounder tamper - Reset required"?

Hi,
Just moved in with my girlfriend and she has a 9651 Scantronic alarm which has "sounder tamper reset required" constantly flashing on the display.
I've tried looking at it and tutting a lot but that doesn't seem to fix the problem?
I've searched online and found mentions of an engineers code (07890) and shorting 2 circuits underneath the cover but wanted to know about the system before i do something that could potentially kill me.
Can anyone offer any advice?

I was considering just moving out but I've kind of got used to my girl and think it may be too drastic a step especially if some fantastic chap could nod me in the right direction and make me look all cool and handy. I have a screwdriver so i'm all set toolwise.

Cheers in advance!!

Umm or you could stop being a big girls blouse and isolate the power on the end station, remove the lid,see if any fuses have been pulled or inspect the AUX fuse if it in the holder.

If not book a visit from caretech ltd.google it!

or your taking the piss,if so dell,(its maderine) look it up

poor u then you have a blown fuse in the panel mate you need open it after you turn mains power off but you will need the engineering code to reset the panel as I said before or you need the engineering manual but u do not care to give me an address to send it so u need call out engineer pay lots o dosh , I give up,your on your own,(mabey litt ) :-)

None of the pirs things are lit up at all. There's a massive spider near the one in the spare room though - if that helps?

I live in Sunderland. Possibly not much longer though if that spider stays here.
I'm not scared or anything, I'm allergic to spiders. They make my eyes water and force me to sit rocking until someone (the 6 year old) saves......helps me.

Aux fuse gone :),then thats defo engineers reset on that model.

Umm wonder what the logs say on this one?,

But more importantly why has the fuse gone?,short somewhere cable cut or nailed etc.

Think this ones a job for a pro to sort out mate.

Where are you located?,let's see if we can put you in touch with a good guy :).

sounds like a fuse has gone to mate are the pirs lit ??

hey that's sounds good,pity I cant use it :-(

I entered the engineers code - it didn't like that. The message on the display changed to something like "Aux DC Tamper - reset required" then made a noise like when an alarm works ok (giving you the time to leave?) - now it's back to the "sounder tamper".

Thanks for your help guys, I really appreciate it. I think I may just call someone out like you both, someone who knows their shit. I don't fancy opening it at all.

Managed to bluff my way out of it with the girlfriend too - I blamed it on a fused flux capacitor causing a intermittent electrical loop. I was holding a hammer too so she bought it. I'll wait until shes at work some day when i'm off and call someone out. :)

Cheers for the advice.

IIRC the 9651 will need an engineers reset for "sounder tamper".

Take gts's offer of the manual because you are going to need it,or you could get a pro out as suggested. But in the meantime, and this is a long shot,I'm sure gts agrees, because we always change the engineers default code to ours.

If you can get hold of a multimeter I'll tell you what settings and how and where to meter, to determine whether the sounder or it's wiring is still in O/C.

You have been right with us so I'm willing to help :),

See if you can enter "installers mode" with the default engineering code,at least then you don't need to mess around returning all codes back to factory settings.

You never know if the sounder has an intermittent "Tamper"which at this stage is currently in a closed circuit status.

Enter the default engineers code,(the one you mentioned) and if it's accepted the keypad will display "installers mode" or such words depending on software/upgrade chip/version.

If displayed key in 99 then hit the double tick button twice.

If all goes ok then you have performed an engineers reset, but be warned that if the panel still see's an open circuit it will not reset, also the current state will remain the same.

Try it it's a long shot!.

give me an address I will send you the engineering manual ,not your home address but work one will do

Thanks very much for the advice - I don't have the engineering manual but i have ok internet abilities (although if you're offering gts - i'd appreciate it...)

I've printed off your advice e manno, once i have everything i'll give it a good read & re-read over a couple of hundred times. Once i feel confident i understand i'll probably do the sensible thing and ring a professional :)

Just asked her if she would describe herself as good looking to a stranger on the internet for some website i'm chatting on - the way she glared at me means i may not need a burglar alarm. I'm probably sleeping on the settee for the next 3 months.

You will have to sort the sounder tamper first Billy because it's hard to say if the panel has been set up for user or engineers reset at this stage.

If you don't want to get the ladders out, then you could always link out the sounder's tamper terminals inside the endstation, so it doesn't see the tamper, then try entering your user code then hitting the tick button.

If the "spanner" remains lit and it still asks for a reset, then you need the engineering code for the reset, probably changed from the factory default code you mentioned for one chosen by the installer and unknown by you.

We can't tell you on here how to default the codes for security reasons, but I'd also suggest finding the engineering manual from the net and having a jolly good read, and again Billy we can't give you a link for this manual either for the same reasons.

If you want to try linking out the sounder TAMP terminals then it's in the manual, but always isolate mains power to the endstation before you remove the lid.

I'm expecting a tamper alarm when you remove the lid but just enter your user code and hit tick to silence the alert and carry on playing :).

Good luck and I hope this info helps a little.

Ps it's all there in the manual, download it,read it then read it again.
Pps there's two tamper micro switches on the sounder, lid and base/wall.

do you have the engineering manual ?

gts, August 2013
the system wont kill you,she may,ha ha

gts, August 2013
the bell box has a problem mate get it checked out by a pro cant tell you on here how to bypass the sounder tamper for obvious reasons, but if you must leave your girlfriend and she is good looking,me take her :-)
