how can i fix my new home sr2000 sewing machine?

i have been given the above sewing machine but it starts as soon as i plug it in, have tried playing with the peddle in case it was stuck down but no good.

need to open foot control and remove the little round or square unit connected with wires between the two power cables,sure this will stop problem
