need help with screen on HP pavillion zv5000?

Hi,
I have two HP pavillion zv5000 laptops and both are bust! On one the laptop screen is completely black, you can see the lights going when you power up so I'm assuming its loading up ok, just that i can't see anything. Would anyone be able to give me instructions on what to do to fix it?
On the other one the screen comes on but I cant see any of the windows Icons on the desktop to get into it and have no idea how to sort it, not sure if its a virus or what? Please help if you can. Thanks

Im having the same problem with my monitor screen not lighting up so it appears very dark. To answer your question about your icons not showing on your desktop, right click any where on your desktop, go to (arrange icons by) select show desktop icons. If that dosn't work, I don't know what's wrong.

Try plugging in a monitor (VDU) to each of the laptops and see if they work (may need to start in safe mode if the monitor will not display at high enough resolution).

Also try starting both laptops in safe mode without monitor connected - you should at least see the bios messages.

Check HP.com for more help - you can at least download the service manuals for your machines.

Good luck
