Broken boot lid mechanism on Vauxhall Astra Club 2000?

Help! First of all my car is sat on my drive with either a flat battery or a broken alternator & I need to get it to the garage to get it fixed; however.... When I went to open my boot lid this morning so my husband could jump start the car it wouldnt open (not uncommon as the latch has been a bit tempremental for a while - yes I know I should have got it fixed). Anyway I am fiddling with the lever underneath the stearing wheel as you do and all of a sudden the leaver has broken out of place and is dangling from a cable.

I dont know what to do next...

I dont have breakdown cover to my house but I could get this added although I imagine this could prove slightly expensive for not a lot of gain.

Ideally I need to get in the boot, get my car jumped and get it to the garage where they can fix both problems.

If anyone can suggest how I can get into the boot that would be great. Could I just try and spray a bottle of WD40 in the bonnet where the lock is and then pull the broken leaver cord / hope for the best?

Thanks all
