problem with my ford mondeo2.0 2006 auto gearbox?

when it is in any gear it revs up but only moves a short distance very slowly maybe 6 feet & only just, then no drive,and will not move till its been stood a few hours & dues the same as above

Have you checked the fluid level ? of course you haven't. Was it checked when it was last serviced ? whenever that was due, I doubt it. Do you know how to check the fluid level ?
