Carl, when was it last serviced and what's a briane?? for starters you could check the fuel filter(s) for clogging, also the vacuum pipe that goes from the petrol tap to the carb might be blocked or have a kink in it therefore letting only small amounts of petrol through, flush out the fuel tank and refil with fresh go-juice, see if that improves things.
